Gluten Free Mint Oreos

Stop the presses!!! I found the elusive gluten free mint Oreos!!! And they are incredible!!!

Mind you I LOVE mint and I already loved the regular gluten free Oreos. This is cookie heaven to me.

Someone mentioned that these taste like Girl Scout Thin Mints and I agree for the most part. Although I like the chocolate covering on Thin Mints and that is obviously missing here but the flavor is there.

I also love that these have more filling than regular Oreos but less than the double stuff. I think they are perfectly filled and I wish the regular Oreos would use this same filling amount.

These will become a regular in my house for sure. I happened to get these on sale for $3.33 at Giant Food Stores but I’d be willing to pay full price. I seriously love these cookies.

Partake Chocolate Chip Cookies

I had heard about Partake cookies from a few online people and they were a Facebook ad more times that I would like to see.

So when I was placing an order at Vitacost and had a great percent deal off my order, I decided to add the chocolate chip cookie from Partake, as I like to try different chocolate chip cookies.

Let's just start with, I am glad they were inexpensive with my Vitacost deal. I personally do not think they are worth the price even when I got them so much less.

For one I expected a larger cookie, they are more like nuggets or like the mound of dough you place on the cookie sheet to make a full sized cookie. I did get momentarily excited, after the shock of the cookie size wore off, that it would taste like cookie dough... it does not. Actually it doesn't really taste like anything.

It is very hard, crumbly, dry and dense. Also one of the cookies out of the three I ate only had a small piece of chocolate in it, so that was definitely not good for a chocolate chip cookie.

I am really sad. I don't like to not like things but these cookies seem like a step back in the gluten free world. Although I have to say since they are free of so much, they are hopefully perfect for someone who needs to have a cookie without all the other things in them.

I am 100% aware that everyone has different tastes and likes and I am sure this is someone's favorite cookie but it unfortunately is not mine.

Oreo’s

 Oh my goodness!!

My favorite cookie as a child is now available gluten free!!

It has been over 20 years since I’ve had an Oreo. I won’t lie I am not sure I remember if they taste the same or not but I think so. They seem thinner and crispier but overall they taste great as they are regardless if they taste the same or not.

I’ve tried many different gluten free chocolate sandwich cookies in the past 20 years but none were Oreos. Most were more like Hydrox or just had their own taste. So I guess that does answer my conflict. If someone gave me this cookie with no markings or forethought, I am 99% sure I would say this was an Oreo.

Oddly, they cost the same as gluten filled Oreos and that was unexpected but appreciated. I found them at my local Giant after seeing an online friend had them and she found them at her local grocery.

I definitely recommend them if you are missing Oreos or if you just want a good gluten free chocolate sandwich cookie :)

Snacks at Walt Disney World

Oh how we love our snacks at Walt Disney World. Our February trip had us seeking out L'Artisan des Glaces in the France Pavilion of Epcot World Showcase. Alexis’s Gluten Free Adventures wrote about these and it was now my mission to find them and try them.

Macaron ice cream sandwiches!

Strawberries and cream was the flavor of the day and I have no words good enough to describe how incredible these were. The macaron was crunchy, airy and so tasty. The ice cream was strawberry and vanilla and it was creamy and sweet. I could have eaten a dozen of them and I am definitely glad we didn’t share one of these ;)

Later we went to find the Maple popcorn at the Canada Pavilion in Epcot.
It was a chilly night so this really hit the spot. It smelled soooo good and tasted just as good too.

The next day, we got one of my favorite treats.
This always hits the spot and I make sure to get at least one each time we visit.

Our last night we were determined to get more fresh popped popcorn.
Unfortunately (for our want of fresh popped popcorn) we ended up staying in Star Wars Land until after closing and missed out. It was definitely worth it though since we got to ride Smuggler’s Run with only a 20 minute wait, photos with no one else in them by the Millennium Falcon and an invite into Oga’s Cantina with no wait and we got a table!!

Anyway, back to the popcorn...So we got the next best thing from our hotel gift shop. And even though we really wanted plain popcorn, this kettle corn flavor was perfection. It was neither too sugary nor too salty. True Disney magic but once again.

Goodie Girl Magical Animal Crackers

So another blogger I follow posted a photo of these Goodie Girl Magical Animal Crackers and I knew I had to find them. I love animal crackers.

And I LOVE these animal crackers. The first thing I did after trying one was search the outside of the box again to make sure these were gluten free. They are just like I remember from the little circus train cage box. Crunchy, buttery, sweet and oh so good.

The absolute best part after the taste... I didn’t even notice... these are not your traditional animals for animal crackers. I assume the Magical in the name was for the taste and while it still is, it really is for the animals included in the box. Narwhals, Unicorns, Mermaids, etc. Such a clever idea.

Run out and get these. I found these at Wegman’s in North Wales and they are worth every cent!

Greater Philly Gluten Free Expo 2019

This year my Mom and I headed to Oaks for the Gluten Free Expo.  It was held on Saturday May 18 10:30am until 4pm. We arrived just before 10:30 and had to stand in line but it was a lovely day and we met a nice family in line who I chatted with about all things gluten free.

Once inside my Mom was ready to go get everything but I had to calm her down and mention that I wanted to try and get a gluten free funnel cake this year. We missed out last year and I had been thinking about it every day since then. So we walked down to the food truck and found a line BUT not as long as I thought and not as long as it would become not too much longer after we got in it.

Our friends from the entrance line ended up two people behind us and we chatted some more, this time about our excitement for gluten free funnel cake. Also available at the truck were dounut holes, corn dogs and pizza. We heard nothing but rave reviews for all of it but couldn’t wait to have our own opinion in about 10 minutes after ordering I was holding my holy gluten free grail.

It was warm, light and absolutely delicious. I must have had mis-remembered thoughts on funnel cake because I really thought we could never eat the whole thing and not be so full we couldn’t eat the other samples but I was wrong. It was very light and it while a good size it was not overwhelming. I got teary as I thought how wonderful it was that I could eat this and someone took the time to figure out how to make it for us. I watched families with little children able to enjoy what everyone else was enjoying and it was just so heart warming.

Then we were off to try everything else. And everything else we did indeed try. Everyone was so nice and everything but one thing was delicious. We had Petit Pot pudding, cheesecake, three kinds of pizza, BBQ chicken (my favorite sample), Happy Mixer everything, Buddha bread (one of my favorites from last year), soft pretzels, and I think more than I can remember. No Promise Bread unfortunately as that would have been a large purchase if they were there again.

The one thing I definitely did not like was the Nomato Ketchup and Nomato Sauce. I was very hopeful that it would be good because I know a few people that can’t eat tomatoes so I thought this would be a nice change. I don’t even think I could guess what it actually tasted it like but it did not taste like tomato but it didn’t taste like the veggies that were in it either. So glad they had samples because I would have been very disappointed if I bought this and took it home.

We didn’t win any door prizes and while we bought some things it was way less than last year. There did seem to be less free samples to take home compared to last year also but honestly that was fine with me. Last year hubby and I ate way too much there and brought way too much home so I was good to be able to find places to put all our wares this year :)

Our purchased items

I highly recommend this expo if you are gluten free. It is only $10 and it is a great way to try some new things and learn all about celiac and gluten free. There are panels too throughout the day but I did not attend any. I hear they are very good.

It is just so amazing to look around the expo center and know I can eat everything in the building. A freeing time for sure.

Lastly I recommend that if you want anything from the food truck that you head there right away upon entering the expo or buy a VIP ticket and use it to be able to buy the food at the food truck. They sell out of things and the line at one point was taking 1.5 hours to get through. Now while I think it is I worth this wait I wouldn’t really want to wait that long and miss out on the other things. So prepare or divide and conquer if you are going with other people.

Oh and bring bags and in our case my Mom’s rollator was a HUGE help with said bags. You get a bag when you enter the expo but you mostly like will need more than that one bag :)

Greater Philly Gluten Free Expo - take 3

Here are a few more of my favorite things from the expo:

Wildflower Cafe - bagel was delicious and hubby really enjoyed the schooner.

CakePops - mint chocolate cookie was divine. Perfect amount of sweet and mint.
And the butterfly cookie took me back to childhood, I am convinced it is not gluten free, soooo delicious.

Bonus with this one - each pack is a serving of vegetables. Yes, I said vegetables. And they are really tasty too. Highly recommend.

Must get from Kendra’s - banana roll!!!

I have lots and lots of rolls on my belly now from all this yumminess!

Thank you to all the sponsors and vendors who made this Gluten Free Expo so amazing.
Can’t wait for next year.
Watch out gluten free funnel cake... I am coming for you!!

Greater Phill Gluten Free Expo - take 2

My number one sweet find at the expo was these Bake A Re Italian Butter Cookies.

Oh.My.Goodness.

The BEST cookies EVER! I am not kidding or lying. I still can not believe these are gluten free. They are identical to the gluten filled variety and I am in awe. Absolutely delicious. Worth every penny and I am very sad that there are only two left in my bag.
