Gluten Free Mint Oreos

Stop the presses!!! I found the elusive gluten free mint Oreos!!! And they are incredible!!!

Mind you I LOVE mint and I already loved the regular gluten free Oreos. This is cookie heaven to me.

Someone mentioned that these taste like Girl Scout Thin Mints and I agree for the most part. Although I like the chocolate covering on Thin Mints and that is obviously missing here but the flavor is there.

I also love that these have more filling than regular Oreos but less than the double stuff. I think they are perfectly filled and I wish the regular Oreos would use this same filling amount.

These will become a regular in my house for sure. I happened to get these on sale for $3.33 at Giant Food Stores but I’d be willing to pay full price. I seriously love these cookies.

Schar Panettone

I have been wanting to try Panettone for a while now. I could never find the brand that I would see on other gluten free blogs but then Schar announced they would be baking one. I was very excited as I enjoy Schar gluten free items. I was even more excited that I found the last 3 at Wegmans over Thanksgiving weekend!! I grabbed one and then waited until closer to Christmas to try it.

I am not a fan of raisins in baked goods but I knew they would be in this. Well, I now like raisins in Panettone :) This was delicious. Pleasantly spiced, tender and baked well. It actually felt like a lovely surprise with how much I enjoyed this. I understand now why people like to have this for their Christmas holiday. It seems like a nice savory opposite to all the sweets we have at this time of year.

I don't know if Schar is the best gluten free Panettone out there but I am grateful to them for creating it this year and my ability to find it. Yum

Katz - Gingerbread Donuts

Not as good as the pumpkin spice donuts but these were quite yummy.

I expected the ginger pieces on the donuts to be overly gingery and possibly burny as ginger can be but they weren’t at all. In fact I wondered if they were ginger after all.

I would rather the pumpkin spice donuts but I wouldn’t turn these down if I found them again.

Lucky Spoon - Lovely Lemon Cupcakes

Soooooooo much better than the strawberry ones we had. Seriously, it was like a whole different company made these. Perhaps something was wrong with the pack of strawberry ones I had. These lemon ones were even on clearance and were so much better.

The lemon cake was soft, light and delicious. The icing was a little stiff but I assume that might be due to the clearance situation... I bought them on their expiration day date at Giant. Even still, these were so good. I would completely buy them full price without question. I even thing there was a little lemon icing between the top icing and the cake.

Writing this right now, makes me want to go back and eat the other ones. Yummmm

Daiya Pumpkin Cheezecake

On that same Wegmans trip that I got the Katz items, I also was able to get this item. We recently had the regular Daiya Cheezecake and really enjoyed it. So I was confident this would be just as good.

And it was, maybe not AS good as the regular one but I wouldn't turn this down if offered to me and I would buy it again.

I love the size of this cheezecake. It is perfect for two people and two forks ;) Yes, we did eat this all in one sitting! It was well worth the calories. The crust is delicious and only on the bottom so it doesn't overwhelm the actual cheezecake or the flavor. I found it to be the correct balance between the two.

I will also admit we didn't follow the defrost instructions properly and we still loved it. I should really get another one and follow the actual defrosting instructions to fully review the item ;) I guess a trip to Wegmans might be in order, although will there be any left there. They were there when I went back for the Katz items but I didn't get one then...hmmm perhaps not the best idea I had.

Katz - Fall items

For the first time EVER, I was able to get the Katz Fall items. I have wanted to try them for the past couple of years but kept missing out in the stores. Finally this year, I got to Wegmans in time and was able to get all 3 of the Fall items they released.

Working from least favorite to favorite BUT realize they are all yummy and good.

Caramel Apple Cupcakes: Delicious and great apple taste. I will say I am not of fan of the apple pieces on top due to texture issues BUT it all tasted so good. These were best counter defrosted.

Pumpkin Creme Cakes: yum yum yum. A gluten free Twinkie but pumpkin. Not as light and fluffy but still totally yummy. Good pumpkin taste and again best when counter defrosted.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Glazed Donuts: BEST EVER! Oh my goodness these are addicting and sooooo good. Seriously this is the taste I have been wanting for a pumpkin item and even for a glazed donut. I wish I had bought tons of boxes of these. When I went back a week later, everything was gone :( These were good both counter defrosted and the 10 second (I did 15) microwave defrost.

Again all 3 were great but I definitely LOVED the donuts the most. If you get a chance to try any of these, I definitely recommend them. Then come back and tell me your thoughts.

Cape Whoopies - Whoopie Pie

Yummmmmy
Perfect really.
Not too sweet. Not too dense.
Light, chocolatey, tasty cream and just the right size too
Found at Wegmans for $4.00. Definitely a good price for what you get.
Definitely will pick up again when I’m there.

Gluten Free Bakery Girl

We were in Bethany Beach Delaware and one of the coffee shops 3BB Cafe had these gluten free baked goods for sale.

We had the brownie as a dessert and the bakewell as a breakfast item. They were both delicious. I wish I had bought two of each so we didn’t have to split each one 🙂

The brownie was not overly sweet and the balance of chocolate and peanut butter was perfect. It was savory and so yummy.

The raspberry almond bakewell was perfectly baked and the raspberry was sweet and just enough filling. The almonds on top were crunchy and tasty.

The bakewell was $7.50 and while it was delicious, I think that is way too expensive. The brownie was $5.50 and that seems more reasonable and worth the price. For a special vacation treat and supporting a local business, I have no complaints.

You can find Gluten Free Bakery Girl online and order for shipping. I do notice the bakewell is significantly cheaper online, more than just a mark up cheaper but again I’m happy to support a local business and have vacation treats. I might consider an order in the near future and try some of her other items.

Let me know if you have ever had her treats and what are your favorites.

O’Doughs Wild Blueberry Muffins

First things first,
NEEDS.MORE.BLUEBERRIES!!!

Delicious but no where near enough blueberries.
Soft, sweet, large, yummy.
I’d buy them again but I hope there will be more blueberries.

Maybe they are called wild blueberry muffins because the blueberries are so wild they don’t stick around to be in the muffins. They are out somewhere being wild. LOL 😆

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Double Chocolate Muffins

I am not sure there were chocolate chips in the one I had but it still tasted amazing. Unless they are melted chocolate chips. I was expecting a crunch of a chocolate chip but there was none. BUT that does not mean these are not excellent chocolate muffins. I am quite happy with them.

So light and airy. I am sure there are no calories in these muffins either ;)

It is a soft chocolate taste and while I expected an overwhelming chocolate, I am actually happy that it was a lighter touch. It was almost refreshing as it wasn't a heavy muffin at all and that is hard to do with chocolate.

Also $4.99 for 4 like the coffee cake muffins, which I think is a great deal.

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Cinnamon Coffee Cake Muffins

WOW
WOW
WOW

Oh my goodness, these are sooooo good. So soft. Soooo delicious. Perfect flavor.

Great price too at $4.99. Dangerously good.

So glad Trader Joe's is far away and these will just be a treat and not an all the time food... although I would definitely love that.

Definitely add these to your next Trader Joe's shopping list. You will not be disappointed, at least I wasn't.

Lucky Spoon - Strawberry Cupcake

 So Very Strawberry cupcakes?

I have been wanting to try these for a very long time. I decided to splurge recently and picked them up for $5.99 at Giant.

I don’t like to post complaints but these were terrible. They didn’t smell like strawberry, and they definitely didn’t taste like strawberry. I am not even sure what they tasted like. They also were more like a muffin than a cupcake. They were oily and tasteless. So disappointed.

I hope it was just a bad batch but I will not try these again unless they are on discount.

Oui Madeleines

Thanks to my sister and her awesome gift of gift cards to Yummy Bazaar and an email discount, I picked up some French and Italian gluten free goodies. Here is one of my favorites!

Theses Oui Madeleines are fantastic.

I won’t lie, I thought a Madeleine was a cookie. How wrong I was and how right these are. Madeleins are like little pound cakes. Sweet, moist, light, and oh so good. Like, thank goodness these are individually wrapped or I might have eaten the whole bag in one setting.

Admittedly, not the best photo of the actual Madeleine but you can see how they are individually wrapped. Just imagine the tastiest little cake ever and you will be right and you will want some too.

Wegmans Gluten Free Pretzel Sticks

So I first must point out that I haven't eaten any pretzels in over 1.5 years. When I decided to lose weight I knew the number one thing I had to give up was pretzels and really the only thing I had to give up. They are my kryptonite and guess what? They still are.

The crunch, the salt, the stick form, all of it. I LOVE pretzels and these are pretty good, if a little generic. I don't like saying that because it sounds really bad and to some it might be. But I like a generic pretzel. My favorite pretzel doesn't exist anymore once they changed their recipe - as they said to make them healthier. It's a pretzel, it is not supposed to be healthy.

Anyway, for $2.99 and I had a $1 off coupon, these are a great buy. However, I can never buy them again, as the bag didn't even make it a week. There is no way I can eat just 33 pretzels as a serving. Sad but true. At least I know my kryptonite and can choose to avoid it.

Wegmans Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix

So anyone who knows me knows I love Wegmans. I am a loyal shopper and appreciate all that they do for people who need to live a gluten free life. I especially love when I get digital coupons for their gluten free items. I am always up for trying new gluten free mixes and items.

One of the coupons recently was $1 off their $3.99 gluten free mixes. The options were: Pancake and Waffle Mix, Honey Cornbread Mix, Cookie Mix, Chocolate Brownie Mix, Biscuit & Scone Mix, Muffin & Quick Bread Mix, Golden Cake Mix and Chocolate Cake Mix.

You can see I chose the Chocolate Cake Mix. Note, I did have a second coupon that I used to get the Pancake and Waffle Mix and I will write that up when I get a chance to prepare it :)

I made the Chocolate Cake as cupcakes this past weekend. I pulled together all the very simple ingredients and started mixing it up as I usually do when I make a mix. Whoops!! If I had actually read the instructions before I started, I would have seen that I was doing it wrong. I am not sure if it affected the end product but I do think I will get the mix again sometime in the future and follow the instructions correctly to see if it is different. I will follow up on it on the blog when I try it again.

The chocolate was very good, not overwhelming. It definitely was not too sweet and it was just a touch dry but I didn't mind that. I wonder if any of these things would be different if I had made it the correct way. Regardless of how I made these cupcakes, I would buy this mix again. I did like it better than the Betty Crocker version, as this was more like traditional cake and seemed further along in the gluten free world. Meaning it seems like lots of testing went into this Wegmans mix to make it as close to what I remember for chocolate cake. Of course it has been over 20 years since I have had gluten filled chocolate cake so perhaps my memory is skewed :)

For $2.99 with a coupon, I definitely recommend this mix. I can't wait to try the others over time and I will write them up as I try them. Enjoy!

Partake Chocolate Chip Cookies

I had heard about Partake cookies from a few online people and they were a Facebook ad more times that I would like to see.

So when I was placing an order at Vitacost and had a great percent deal off my order, I decided to add the chocolate chip cookie from Partake, as I like to try different chocolate chip cookies.

Let's just start with, I am glad they were inexpensive with my Vitacost deal. I personally do not think they are worth the price even when I got them so much less.

For one I expected a larger cookie, they are more like nuggets or like the mound of dough you place on the cookie sheet to make a full sized cookie. I did get momentarily excited, after the shock of the cookie size wore off, that it would taste like cookie dough... it does not. Actually it doesn't really taste like anything.

It is very hard, crumbly, dry and dense. Also one of the cookies out of the three I ate only had a small piece of chocolate in it, so that was definitely not good for a chocolate chip cookie.

I am really sad. I don't like to not like things but these cookies seem like a step back in the gluten free world. Although I have to say since they are free of so much, they are hopefully perfect for someone who needs to have a cookie without all the other things in them.

I am 100% aware that everyone has different tastes and likes and I am sure this is someone's favorite cookie but it unfortunately is not mine.

Oreo’s

 Oh my goodness!!

My favorite cookie as a child is now available gluten free!!

It has been over 20 years since I’ve had an Oreo. I won’t lie I am not sure I remember if they taste the same or not but I think so. They seem thinner and crispier but overall they taste great as they are regardless if they taste the same or not.

I’ve tried many different gluten free chocolate sandwich cookies in the past 20 years but none were Oreos. Most were more like Hydrox or just had their own taste. So I guess that does answer my conflict. If someone gave me this cookie with no markings or forethought, I am 99% sure I would say this was an Oreo.

Oddly, they cost the same as gluten filled Oreos and that was unexpected but appreciated. I found them at my local Giant after seeing an online friend had them and she found them at her local grocery.

I definitely recommend them if you are missing Oreos or if you just want a good gluten free chocolate sandwich cookie :)

Josie’s Best Gluten Free Crepe Mix

The last Josie’s Best mix that I had is The Crepe mix. It was actually the one I wanted to try the most but it is also the one I knew the least about making.

I thought I followed the directions for cooking the crepes but apparently I didn’t follow something or understand something.

This is not a crepe.

I will be honest, I got very frustrated with myself and my lack of crepe making skill and I gave up.
I did write to both Josie’s Best and Alexis Gluten Free Adventures for some tips.
Both got back to me with more information including a video of how to make the crepes from Josie.
The video was a huge help but I was still gun shy to go back and try again.

I promise I will make these, I just need a moment.
In no way is my frustration a negative for the mix as it was very easy to make and looked perfect.
I just need patience and more time to learn how to make the crepe. It was all operator error.

Josie’s Best Gluten Free Muffins and More Mix - Dutch Baby

Again Alexis Gluten Free Adventures has posted many times about these mixes and in particular making a Dutch Baby or German Pancake. I have never heard of it before but it looked yummy and didn’t look hard to make. So I ordered the variety pack of Josie’s mixes and then made a Dutch Baby.

There is also a waffle mix, pancake mix and crepe mix.
As I use them I will post about them.

I decided to add blueberries to half of the mix as I had some to use up and I was also curious how it would taste.

It was fun to watch this bake.

Ooooo look at it all puffy!

It stayed that way for a little it once it was out.

Look how pretty.

And it was very tasty too. A little more moist than I though it would be.
It really reminded me of funnel cake minus the funneling :)
The recipe calls for powdered sugar and lemon. We had the sugar but no lemon... well not really.
The blueberries were ok in it. I much more enjoyed that we put Blueberry Lemon jam on it that we just happened to have in the pantry.
There is something about the lemon that really made the flavor different and more enjoyable.
I would make it again but I am not sure it will become a regular item.

The mix, though, was easy to use and the recipe was easy to follow.
I do highly recommend these mixes as they are minimal ingredients and allergens.
She is great to follow on Instagram as she interacts well and offers advice on options for the recipes.
